I finally have my sketches done. These are actually going to be two separate images in separate frames that will hang a few inches apart. I haven’t nailed down the style yet. I think I need to just start working on the high res versions and see where they go. On the left is a very trusting girl who’s allowed herself to love someone that she’s not even sure she’s seen clearly yet, which is apparent by the avatar she carries in her locket (which matches the one in the image on the right). Having now thoroughly read through the submission guidelines for next year’s SIGGRAPH art gallery, I’m taking a much less ambitious track now. A video sculpture would be great, but not only would I have to have it done and photographed in a month, I would also have to be available a couple of weeks before SIGGRAPH to help install it in the exhibit (should it get in). I don’t see myself being able to take enough vacation to do that, not to mention just shipping the thing to Vancouver could get complicated and expensive very quickly. It’s been a very long time since this has been a work in progress blog. The last time was when I was working on my reel and trying to get a job out here over two years ago. That was a project of necessity and documenting it helped me stay on track. I’m finally ready to start another project and while it’s purely for the sake of creativity itself — and maybe to work through a personal issue or two — I find this to also be a project of necessity.
